I am a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Medical College of Children's Hospital Wisconsin. I have been working in pediatric rheumatology for the last 23 years and have met so many wonderful colleagues, patients, and families throughout the years. Our center has been involved with PR-COIN since its inception and as the only nurse practitioner on our team, I have been involved at every step in our PR-COIN journey. Most colleagues know I am married and have 2 amazing young adult sons who have met many of my JIA patients at our summer Camp MASH (Make Arthritis Stop Hurting). I enjoy yoga, gardening, power walking, and all outdoor activities.

Over the last 23 years, I have been actively involved in our local Arthritis Foundation and our national organization American College of Rheumatology/Association of Rheumatology Professionals (ACR/ARP) on numerous committees, educational events, and online projects. My involvement with PR-COIN has certainly been a highlight for me as I have learned so much about quality improvement (QI) from attending the bi-annual learning sessions and the monthly action period calls. Implementing the PR-COIN QI strategies into my every day clinical practice has helped me to provide my patients and families with the best patient-centered care. Involving my patients and family members from diagnosis to treatment, using elements of Treat-to-Target and calculating a cJADAS at every visit, has helped me collect data that I can monitor on an ongoing basis.

At our center, our IT colleagues have helped our staff build a JIA flow sheet into our EPIC system to help us calculate the cJADAS quickly and efficiently and be able to monitor it over time. We have also used the flow sheet to show patients and families how they are doing from one clinic visit to the next. Our nursing staff has done an excellent job sharing with patients and families all the tools of PR-COIN such as the barriers checklist and testing sheet to enhance, individualize, and improve care.

The PR-COIN collaborative allows centers to learn from each other, share successes, and help navigate challenges. The goal for all of us is to strive for disease remission for all children/teens afflicted with JIA, or at least low disease, and working together through the PR-COIN collaborative is a great way to accomplish this important goal.

Visit our Get Involved page to learn more about how you and your center can get involved in PR-COIN.
